Smelly Science part of the Weird Science Range
The rotten egg smell comes from the reaction between the iron in the yolk and the sulphur in the white.
- Stink bombs consist of ammonium sulphur, which smells strongly of rotten eggs
- Heat forces sulphur into the air and causes an offensive odour
- Stink bombs are used to test the efficiency of air fresheners and deodorisers
- The reaction of vinegar and bicarbonate of soda produces carbon dioxide. This allows the stink bomb to explode.
- When the contents of a stink bomb are exposed to the air, they react to the moisture and a mixture of hydrogen sulphide and ammonia is released.
